Laptop getting heated

Sirji
I am using comapq v 3611 au lappy for some time now but since the day one its getting heated a lot. At times it gets heated to the extent of shutting down. Its a AMD Athelon 64 based with XP OS.

What I want to know is --
1. is it normal for this lappy to get heated so much
2. is it due to xp that its getting heated, because the driver for XP are not available from Microsoft.
3. Can Windows 7 be uploaded on it, if Yes 32 bit or 64 bit will be supported.

Thanks and regards to all

Re: Laptop getting heated

If it shuts down automatically, that's not normal unless ambient temperature is very high. Check the fans with a Compaq diagnostic program and open the cooling system for dust pile-up.

Cooling system is usually over dimensioned and software shouldn't be able to trip the heat-panic switch.
