OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit

Dell Studio 1555 Freezes even on Safe Mode please HELP!

Dear all,

My Dell Studio 1555 was purchased in August 2009, about 2 months old now. Operation system is Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

CPU is 2 x 2 Ghz
Ram is 4 GB
HD is 320 GB

Just today while I was working on PowerPoint, it freezes (locks) and I could not do anything, tried Ctrl+Alt+Del and didn't do anything, therefore I turned off the power and restart.

Upon restarting it prompts me to either "Start Windows Normally" or "Repair Startup", since there is a message warning me I chose "Repair"

While the Windows is preparing to load up, it freezes again.

I turn off and on again, only this time the screen is all black and stays black.

I called local tech support and Dell tech support, I was asked to turn on the laptop on again, sometimes it goes black; some times I can tap F8 and go to safe mode, I don't know why.

Following instructions from Dell tech support, I was instructed to backup my files and perform a System Restore (or re-installing Windows Vista). I do not have the System DVD (or CD) with me presently.

While I was on Safe Mode backing up files (copy/paste folders to external HD), it freezes again in Safe Mode.

I did this again and again, moving files one by one, it seems to freeze about 5 minutes into safe mode, AND, sometimes upon tapping F8 and go to Safe Mode, it loads some system files on a black screen (like command prompt) but freezes while doing so.

Overall, I really don't know what is wrong, after consulting with 3 tech consultants over the phone, they insist that I use the original Vista System CD to do a diagnosis.

I have my co workers from overseas express ship the CDs to me, but I want to know before that is there anything I can do? or what seems to be the problem? This laptop is almost brand new, only about 2 months old.

Any tips or help will be greatly appreciated, thank you for reading this.

Re: Dell Studio 1555 Freezes even on Safe Mode please HELP!

Try this first:

1. Remove battery.
2. Remove AC power.
3. Hold down your power button for 1 minute.
4. Replace your AC power (not battery) and turn on.

This is called a hard reset. If it works COOL, then replace your battery. If not then we will try something else. Good luck.
