Dell Laptop FSB Problem

Hey guys

Have a Dell Inspiron 9300 here, the CPU should be running at 1.8 GHz however it is only running at 226 Mhz, the RAM running at 75 MHz or DDR150. Have tried replacing the RAM, updating the BIOS, resetting the BIOS, no change.

This speed occurs weather in Windows or running memtest etc, the processor or FSB is just running waaay slower than it should be. Most likely a hardware problem, can't see it being software related anymore, but no idea what hardware or if it's fixable.....

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Just trying to take a stab at this one... use default values in BIOS settings. Also check if there are parameters in BIOS settings re: processor speed or speedstep technology. Change these parms as needed.

Re: Dell Laptop FSB Problem

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I have already loaded the BIOS defaults and there is no options within the silly Dell BIOS to change the DRAM or FSB, its very limited. I have also already updated the BIOS to the latest revision..... I did try disabling speedstep and also enabling it, no change.

Re: Dell Laptop FSB Problem

When did the issue begin to occur. Did it work before you installed Windows 7. Not sure if it is compatible but most Dell computers require you install Notebook System Software and the Intel Chipset driver after installing the operating system.

Re: Dell Laptop FSB Problem

Hey guys

Sorry I didn't make it clearer, Windows 7 is my PC at home, this laptop is a friends it is not mine, it is running Windows XP, there were no changes to the system recently. I am not sure exactly when this happened but he complained it was getting real slow, like 15 minutes to load Windows, and the loading bar is actually slower than normal, such as the speed in which is moves across the screen.

Re: Dell Laptop FSB Problem

Try reloading Notebook System Software and then the Intel Chipset Driver and see if makes any difference. NotebooK SS is under System Utilities and you may find them here.
