no program is working

hi.
I am having compaq presario v5000 and i installed avast antivirus few days back.Before i was having Quick heal total security but i have not uninstalled it.Now the problem is that no application is working even the games,ms office and any other application.
what should i do in this condition.

Usually two anti virus programs on the same system will create issues. U should have uninstalled the previous anti virus first before installing the new on. But, you now have this issue so lets try to get it resolved. First thing I would do is try system restore. On your desktop, press the F1 key, under "pick a task" click on "undo changes to your computer with system restore. Restore the computer back to the day previous to you installing the new anti virus program. Your computer will reboot. Once rebooted and youre in Windows XP, Remove the old antivirus, and then install the new one.

This is what I recommend doing before anything else. Post your findings.

hi.....
thanx 4 suggestion but when i am pressing F1 on desktop it is showing an error message "helpctr.exe" not found so not able to restore my system.what else can be done.

Try this other way around it, Click on Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.
