Acer aspire Screen Problem?
I have an Acer Aspire 5920G.
The problem with it is that when i start it i get lots of vertikal strips on the screen they start as grayish and then goes on after the computer goes on a bit to become purple. im not sure what the problem is. most of the time i can only see stripes, some times it just start normaly and i logg in on windows and it works for some time unntil the screen goes black and the blue screen of death comes up and then it starts with the stripes. i have connect a monitor but it just says no contection how do i fix this? Can i fix it by myself or do i have to send it in for repairs? |

Re: Acer aspire Screen Problem?
With external monitor connected, usually on an Acer its the F5 key that will swap from laptop to external monitor.
Just before you try the above, do this; Hold down Fn+Esc key, still holding down these keys start the laptop up and keep holding down the keys. You should hear a series of beeps. **** Please Post back on your progress. It’s nice to know if the forum has helped or not. **** |

Re: Acer aspire Screen Problem?
This key combination is for use with a bios recovery crisis disc, which you do not have. The first thing the process does before recovery is do a hardware check, and if it finds fault it will return a series of beeps, each seris of beeps having an association with a fault.
Your system has not returned any, this could be a good sign so far. Try the external monitor and see what you get. |

Re: Acer aspire Screen Problem?
Try leaving the laptop switched on and see if it recovers, may take a while. If not remove the CMOS battery and leave for 10 mins, see what happens.

Re: Acer aspire Screen Problem?
The cmos battery is what keeps your computers BIOS memory alive. If you remove this battery it will reset the bios back to default settings.
I'm not familiar with your laptop, but if you remove the bottom cover of your laptop you will see the RAM modules (thats your computers memory) and some where in there you should see a shinny silver coin size battery. Remove this and keep it out for 10 mins, then put it back in. While you are in there you should see your RAM modules. Remove these also, and then replace them again. To remove these : There are two retaining clips either side of these, if you push them out gentley the memory board should pop up at about 45 degrees. Then pull them out. Put them back into the slot at the 45 degree angle they came out and gentley pushing back dowm the retaining cips should click back into place. Remember to remove your battery and AC power chord before you attempy the above. |

Re: Acer aspire Screen Problem?
Strange but true.........
Acer 1691, 4.5 years old and suddenly Black screen syndrom. Tried everything hard reset etc, etc, changed RAM, CPU and down to removing and testing components on mobo. ![]() Bios beep code indicated faulty graphics chipset (ATI X700). Gave the bios a flash back to original using crisis recovery but something went wrong the fan had stopped half way through flash and lappy was as hot as a burger boys grill. ![]() Thinking this was now the end, I waited until toasted lappy cooled down. Started it up and it had the old bios installed and it worked for about 2 weeks perfectly , then........Black Screen. ![]() I had carried out some research on the web and found out that under the graphic chip the mobo gets hot, this can have an effect on the tiny solder joints and can also cause the board to warp and crack. I inspected this but could not see any physical damage. I came across a French forum, and this is the BIZZARE bit, the dude had taken an industrial hot air blower and gave his graphics chip a good roasting ...... his laptop worked ok after that.Having a think about this I concluded that; A. he was lucky eough to get the correct heat to remelt and rewet the solder joints without nuking his mobo or B. managed to unwarp his mobo using thermal shock. I know what you are all thinking........ this Dude has now run out of options and is thinking of doing what the crazy French Dude has done ![]() Well......... yes, but in a more controlled manner. I took my miniture hot air blower and gave the solder joints around the base of the chipset a higher than average heating, just to the point I could see the solder starting to melt. Then I gave the chipset a good heat up, much higher than its operating temperature but not enough to flambe it.Now I'm an Industrial electronics Tech, and what happened next blew me away! When I assembled the lappy back up and started it up.............yes it worked and has been ever since, without fault, about a month now. I have played games on it and all sort of graphics intense software and still ok ![]() So, I,m not going to tell you to go out there and torch your lappys, but as laptops run hot anyway, and with this thermal cycling it looks possible that some mobos are more susceptible to physical damage. Thats my theory

i did that, but it dident work. It im not sure that i my computer has the same problem as that computer. Now on the other hand my computer is "#¤% again. And as im writing this the computer just startet working again. ??? all i did was let the computer heat up. it goes in and out of stripe screen. I dont know what to do, so im thinking of sending it in to acer.
