Laptop VGA to HDMI

I have a Toshiba Satelite l305d-s5881 laptop. It has USB and a VGA connector and that is it. Recently I was playing on the net and stumbled upon a VGA to HDMI cable, so I bought that, and tried plugging it in to my laptop and my JVC TV (I went with that cable because my TV does not have a VGA port). It did not work. When I plug it in, it changes my resolution to VGA on my laptop, but when I switch the input to the correct input on the TV, nothing shows up. Am I missing a step here?

Re: Laptop VGA to HDMI

If you connect VGA to HDMI through a series of either cables or adapters it wont work as you are trying to send an analog signal (VGA) to a digital peripheral (HDMI). It may physically connect up, but nothing will display.

You will need buy a VGA to HDMI converter box.
