System overheats after switching to XP from Vista
I have always known that the cooling system is a hardware function, but it must be difgferent with my laptop. It is a ComPaq CQ50 NR-215 that originally came with Vista Home Premium. I wanted to see XP run on this system and I was able to install it and most of the drivers. Chipset, video, network adapter and audio. There were a few that would not install modem and unknown device. When I noticed that the machine was very hot I placed my hand over where the fans exhaust and there was not airflow comming out. very soon thereafter the machine shut off. I was able to reinstall vista and there has been no more heat problem. My question is on my computer does the OS control the cooling fans or the bios. If it is the OS wheree can I get the drivers and is there a different technique to install them?
Thanks, Stillsickofvista Last edited by sickofvista; 10-08-2009 at 02:59 AM. Reason: spellcheck |

Re: System overheats after switching to XP from Vista
Hi,
This model come with an 1.90 GHz AMD Athlon X2 QL-60 Dual-Core Processor This means you should have install the AMD Processor driver for XP: http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/dyna...42f&ItemID=173 Did you? I am not sure what other drivers you were missing, but depending on what they were it may cause the laptop to overheat. Can you post the list of the missing drivers? Bill |

XP Drivers for CQ50-215NR
NVidia Chipset NVIDIA GeForce 8200 Nvidia ForceWare X 179.28 for Windows XP/2K 32bit, here MS-UAA Conexant SmartAudio 221 Conexant HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP Driver.Net Framework HP Quick Lauch Buttons Atheros Wireless driver, Synaptics Touchpad Driver, If you had for 7 unknown devices (buttons drivers) I was able to reinstall vista and there has been no more heat problem. So it is not hardware related, I am just confused as to what to do Last edited by dai; 10-10-2009 at 05:02 AM. |

Re: System overheats after switching to XP from Vista
Your above list did not identify the "unknown" device?
I do not "see" in your list the processor driver installed (was it)? This may resolve the issue, but I would like to know what the "unknown" device was. The Modem should not cause this issue. Bill |
