ACPI Temperature - Gateway M520?
Problem - Laptop will shut down while playing games (even the ones that are not graphic intensive. It shut down while just browsing the net.
Attempted solutions: - Checked heat sinks fans - they are both operating - replaced heatsink compound Issue still occurs. I downloaded a program to get temperatures and it seems the ACPI temperature gets about around 72-74 c and then shuts down. What is the solution to my problem? Is there another issue that is causing the laptop to shut down. Could the power cord be the problem? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. |

Re: ACPI Temperature - Gateway M520?
well, you said you checked the fans to see if they worked, but did you clean them? all the fans have a fan "grill" or exhaust if you will, thats where dust builds up and starts blocking airflow out of the laptop, causing hot air to stay in and heat everything up.
get a can of compressed air and blow em out. |

Re: ACPI Temperature - Gateway M520?
Couple things, what program are you using to read the temps? Also, is it getting hot on the bottom of the laptop?
I would also suggest updating the ACPI, video, and audio drivers. If it still shuts down after that, I would try updating the BIOS. ACPI means Advanced Configuration and Power Interface, its software that helps the BIOS and OS work with each other giving the OS info and helps in turning devices on and off and other things. But its not a peice of hardware that can overheat. It could be reporting a temp for a peice of hardware, but it very well could be giving you a false temp also. If you cleaned everything out, your fan is working, the bottom of the laptop is not getting hot, then I would not say that its overheating and shutting down. |
