Bois does not appear

Hi,

I am trying to reinstall windows XP on my Acer Aspire 5683 laptop and i am having a bit of a problem.

the problem is that when i boot the laptop it does not show the bios, the screen just stays black while the bios is on and then it just goes straight to the operating system.

Not sure why but it means i cannot edit bios settings or boot from a cd.

any help would be great

thanks

Re: Bois does not appear

What you are saying is the operating has loaded ok.
What you cant get to, is the BIOS.
When you turn the laptop on press F2 (usual for ACERS) key or what ever key will prompt your BIOS (Some laptops use F12 or DEL). Do you know yours?

Please post back.

Re: Bois does not appear

Not sure what button it is for the BIOS so I tried starting it up several times and pressing one of them each time. No luck.

Im not sure if its the BIOS not working or if im just pressing them at the wrong time. I'l give it a couple more tries and il have a look through the forums for similar problems.

any other ideas?

Re: Bois does not appear

I think i have managed to get into the bios by pressing the f2 key but i have left it for several minutes and the screen is still black. I'l try plugging in an external monitor but after that im out of ideas for now.

Help please!!!

Re: Bois does not appear

Try the external monitor. If you shine a flashlight at aprox 45 degrees to the screen can you see anything on the LCD screen?
