Asus g71gx bsod

I have a ASUS G71GX gaming laptop. It worked fine for a few days and still works great except now once in a while it will go blue screen on me. I'm not doing anything in particular when it happens. The specs are:

C2D 2.53ghz
6gb DDR2 ram
500gb hdd
nvidia 260m graphics
Vista 64 home

Thanks

Re: Asus g71gx bsod

First thing is we need to know the bsod error to better help you out, if the bsod just flashes realy quick then you need to disable automatic restart. Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Settings under startup and recovery > Uncheck Automatically restart.

How often does it bsod for you?

Re: Asus g71gx bsod

I disabled restart. It crashes 2 or 3 times a day. When I was disabling the restart I noticed a check box for a system log. Would that have the type of error on it and where would I find the log?

Re: Asus g71gx bsod

lol well, thats one way to do it, but some bsod's are caused from hardware, so it may continue regardless of what OS your running. Let us know how it goes, but you should like 7, I use it over XP at work and home :)

I switched to 7 and it's still bsod. I used the drivers from the recovery disk that came with the laptop which was vista. Would that also cause bsod? Anyway I'm going to download all the drivers for win7 and see if that chamges anything. If not I will do what's on the link and post it here. Thanks.

Re: Asus g71gx bsod

it could be a driver your using causing the bsod's, the video drivers are a common cause alot of bsod's, I'd suggest updating those first.

Re: Asus g71gx bsod

I have the same laptop with 12GB of memory. Having the blue screen. The error says it is in the ntkernel. I have tried loading all of the Windows 7 X64 drivers from the website but no luck. I have the system dump. I tried the memory test cd that I found but it only does the first 4GB. I think it is a driver issue because I have it set up for dual boot to Windows Server 2008 R2 and I dont see that (or at least not yet)

Any progress? I will follow the instructions above for posting the bsod

Re: Asus g71gx bsod

Hi your error codes are for memory and possible hdd problems so try running the hdd diagnostic from hdd makers site and memtest86+you will need to burn both to discs use img burn to do this
http://www.memtest.org/
http://www.google.co.uk/url?q=http:/...q99DrH2sh6wFsw I would back up my data first also run memetest one stick at a time

I've been running it in safe mode for a few hours with no crash. Firefox and IE keep crashing though but that's been happening all along.
