Re: dell inspiron 1501
actually could be alot of things, one device shorting out can cause it to power on and power right back off. But it could be the motherboard also. Best way to check, is remove all other possibilities and see if it gives you the same problem.
So, next step, remove all other possibilities, take out the hard drive, dvd drive, modem card, wireless card, unhook every cable and wire you can from the motherboard. You want to leave only the dc-in jack/ac adapter, processor, fan, and power switch hooked up. Try power on see if it still shuts down, if it does, then try doing a bench test. Take the motherboard out of the case, set it down on a peice of cardboard with the same things hooked up to it, and try powering it on again. |

Re: dell inspiron 1501
Once you take out the hard drive, dvd rom drive, battery, and express cards you may have, or anything you may have plugged in externally, try reseating the RAM and try booting with one RAM module at a time in one slot at a time while powered by the a/c adapter. If all fail check the coin cell battery and see if it is bad.

Re: dell inspiron 1501
Cell Battery is what powers up your BIOS so I would think its a bad thing that it is not present. I dont know which battery goes in there so you might want to give Dell a call to see which battery it is.
