Error message & Password issue Dell Inspiron 6000

Hi everyone! I was just gifted this laptop.. The fellow that gave it to us said that he just got it back from his exgirlfriend and she has it password locked.. figured he would just give it to us if we can get it to work lol.

Well the first issue.. when we turn it on we get:

Invalid configuration information - please run SETUP program.

That is all it says. no options to push anything. then it just goes away & into that enter password screen. it is not the normal windows password it is an all grayish screen...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This computer system, ########, is protected by a password authentication system. You cannot access the data on this computer without the correct password.
Please type in the system or administrator password and press <enter>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Any advice on either of the two issues? I would appreciate it!!

Thanks!!

oh sorry it is a Dell Inspiron 6000

Re: Error message & Password issue Dell Inspiron 6000

Hi,

Welcome to TSF!!

This sounds like a BOIS password. Unfortunitely I can't really give you a hole lot of information besides that. As our rules state that we can't help with getting passed passwords. The only thing that I can recommend is that you go back to the original owner or the guy you got it from and see if he can get the password for you.

Sorry.

Another option is to take it to a Dell ASP or maybe even call dell tech support. They should be able to assist you, but you will probably need to prove ownership of the laptop.
