Intriguing issue with USB plugs

Hi.

Iīm having a very strange issue where my Laptop seems to "break" any device connected in the USB plugs after some time. For exemple, I bought a new mouse and plugged it via USB... after a couple of months using it normally, it just stopped working (it wonīt work in any other computer also). Itīs the THIRD mouse I try, each one a different type! Itīs allways the same: they work fine for a few months and then, suddenly... pfff.

It seems like it could be some hardware problem with my Laptopīs USB plugs, slowly burning other USB plugs connected to them, I dont know... but the strange thing is: the same used to happen to my previous Laptop (that I exchanged last year for this new one, wich is from a different manufacturer). With that previous laptop, I lost 3 mouses, my tablet and even a mini-modem (wich was connected via USB and I had to change the USB cable to make it work again).

The problem does not seem to affect my pendrives, though (maybe because they arent used as often as mouses...)

Could that be some kind of virus that infected my last laptop and now this one? Is it even possible for a virus to f*** with the USB plugs of other devices?

Please, someone shed a light...

Iīm using a Vaio Laptop, with Windows Vista (if it is of any importance)...

Re: Intriguing issue with USB plugs

I had the same issue with my old laptop. I was told it was a loose motherboard, and that it was (in my case) cheaper t0 buy a new laptop than to fix it.

Re: Intriguing issue with USB plugs

You could try getting a PCI USB card.
