Odd freezing problem

Hey guys, I know I am a newbie on this forum, but I have been told that this is a good place to come if I need help.

I am currently working on a laptop for a customer. The computer is a Toshiba PSM40c-Jm300e, running windows xp SP3 and 512mb Ram. The original reason the unit was brought in was because the OS would not load past the boot screen. After running diagnostics, every peice of hardware passed, aside from the HDD. So we went and replaced the hard drive for the customer. After reinstalling the OS we completed some updates and shut the computer down. The computer was moved to another location and booted back up. About 2 minutes after windows had loaded, the computer froze. We had to do a hard shut down, then booted it back up. Same problem happens. We moved the laptop around again as a hunch, and then booted it back up. Sure enough it didnt freeze whatsoever.

Now normally this would mean something is probably loose as far as hardware is concerned. But the thing that baffles me is that the laptop does not freeze when moved turned on, only after it has been turned off and moved. I have tried reseating the HDD, battery, and RAM. I have blown it out with air to make sure there is no overheating.

Now because it works fine in safe mode it makes me think it is software related. But I have formatted and reinstalled the OS several times using a Microsoft OEM cd.

Any suggestions here?

Thanks

Not very fancy with this type of laptop parts...but I'm taking wild guesses....so sorry if they seem dumb. I'm just a networking administrator and I know a few things about computer..since your computer starts up in safemode perfectly fine...it may be a loose part inside, the ram, the processor, the HDD. I've known computer that have start up with a burned out processor, so check that. Other than that.. I'm dumbfounded and should not be answering this question.

Re: Odd freezing problem

Thanks for the reply.

I have tested the CPU, RAM, and Motherboard for issues. They did all pass. A loose part is still a possibility i suppose, I would just like to avoid ripping apart the entire computer before i am positive it is Hardware related.
