My Acer is about 1 1/2 years old and I have had no problems up until now. When I turn the laptop on the usual lights come on and blink and do their thing. The dvd drive light comes on and then the hard drive "clicks" and the boot process starts over. The other problem is nothing comes on the screen, it stays totally blank and black. I have been building desktops since I was 9 but laptops are a whole new world for me. I removed the hard drive and it interfaces with my home computer just fine. Laptop specs are 1.66 core duo with 3gb ram integrated video of course, Vista, 160gb Toshiba hdd. Not sure what else you would need to know.
Help me Obi Wan Kenobi you are my only hope!

Re: Acer Extensa 5620 No boot
Have you tried your laptop hooked up to an external monitor?

Re: Acer Extensa 5620 No boot
Yes sir I sure did both the VGA connection and the S-Video port same results. If the notebook is not plugged in it will go through two times trying to boot then turn itself off. Sorry should have mentioned that earlier.

Re: Acer Extensa 5620 No boot
Two things come to mind...
First on the booting process... if it boots then starts over then there could be a problem with the Windows installation. Yes, HDD could still be good... reason why you were able to access when you used it in another computer. Try booting into BIOS settings alone (try with HDD removed). If boot up to BIOS settings behaves like the one you described there must be something wrong with your motherboard. Second is the screen... if it blanks out even before Windows starts then it could be LCD or video card/chip or motherboard. Try booting into BIOS settings alone and see if it behaves the same.

Re: Acer Extensa 5620 No boot
Well I guess it must the motherboard or the video chip there is no difference when trying to boot with hdd removed. Screen still not coming up. I am tearing it all apart and checking each connection and seating to be sure nothing worked itself lose. thanks for your ideas.

Re: Acer Extensa 5620 No boot
Ive had experience of this.
This seems to happen a lot with Acers. After u have checked all ur connections try this- Remove the battery and disconnect ur power lead. Hold down the power button for about a minute and then connect the power lead and start the notebook. Has worked for some but not all. Not me. If this does not work, leave the notebook switched on and see if it will start by itself..... I had mine sit from between 5-40 mins once. Have u ever updated the bios? Tell us more about ur laptop. Graphics chip dedicated or onboard etc. Then we will take it from there. |
