Laptop's monitor and boot sector messed up
HP Pavillion Dv9000 series.
My laptop crashed. When restarting the monitor has a line down the center seperating the top and bottom. Both the top and bottom show the same image. There are blue and black lines running down both, and the right side of the screen is black. Laptop will boot in safe mode, but won't boot normaly, and Windows repair won't start. I've tried disabling my graphics card. It does nothing. The monitor is screwed up as soon as the computer starts. Even in the Bios. There is also some gibberish that apears briefly just before I'm given the choice of attempting to repair or not. |

Re: Laptop's monitor and boot sector messed up
Does it show the same if booting into BIOS settings? If it is well in BIOS settings screen then try do a Vista Startup Repair. Also try with an external monitor.

Re: Laptop's monitor and boot sector messed up
The problem shows up before windows itself has started, and in fact as soon as the screen shows ANYTHING.
I've attempted to do a startup repair, but my computer didn't come with an install disc. I may need to purchase one. I've tried hooking up an external monitor, but I can't seem to get the computer to use it, and I can't switch to it once windows has started, because you can't use an external in safe mode. Here is a drawing of what my screen looks like.

Re: Laptop's monitor and boot sector messed up
That's strange... as most laptops I know can use an external monitor. Anyway if you notice the problem to come out even in BIOS settings (or before windows starts) then it could be your LCD or your video chip/card or motherboard.
Another thing come to mind... if you still would like to pursue. Run a linux live CD (Google for download sites) like Ubuntu or Knoppix. If screen problem remains under linux then it is possible that your LCD or motherboard or video card has a problem.
