Strong wireless signal but Limited Connectivity
So I have a HP compaq nc6000 and up until last week when I accidentally unplugged my router, I have been able to get on-line via wireless internet just fine. But since unplugging the router, I cannot get on-line anywhere, not even at the public library or coffee house where I used to go. My computer shows excellent signal is being detected but when I try to log on it says "Limited or No Connectivity". Did I accidentally de-activate something on my computer? What do I need to do?

Re: Strong wireless signal but Limited Connectivity
Hmmm... that's strange because the router is not even part of the laptop. In the other places that you used to go, are they using an unsecured wireless connection? I ask because I usually get this Limited Connectivity message when my key or password to connect to the wireless router is wrong.

Re: Strong wireless signal but Limited Connectivity
It actually sounds like a firewall issue or conflict. I had something similar once upon a time but I don't recall what firewall it was or how I fixed it. It was a long time ago. But take a look at your firewall settings to make sure it will trust your networks and allow connections to other wireless nets when you give permission.

Re: Strong wireless signal but Limited Connectivity
It actually sounds like an internet cord problem...I've had this happen a couple times to me, myself, Try pushing the restart button on your router...leave it off for like 20 minutes...reconnect it. If the problem continues, contact your internet company..It may be an internal problem inside the router. Normally a security code or password can fix. It's not likely that it is the firewall. If it was...then the port number would've changed...and I doubt that happened. Whatever you do, don't take a sludge hammer to the router like I did my few first routers... o.0'

Re: Strong wireless signal but Limited Connectivity
Go ahead and take off all HP tools and programs like the wireless manager and HP support applications and all the other crap they put on the computer when they first sell it to you. Make sure that after you take off these programs to check and see if your wireless adapter is still in your device manager list. Reboot your computer and let your Windows XP/Vista find the wireless connections. Also make sure your WEP key is correct.
