Wifi for y 2000 laptops?

I want to connect my laptop to Wifi or some other type of internet that dosn't need acess through the phone lines, because I don't want crappy dial up.

So, since I'm kind of clueless in this area and this is the first time owning my own laptop, [Toshiba Satellite- Model No. PS280C-8G5C3.] I need desperately to know how to connect it to an internet where I can acess it anywhere I go, type deal.

Please help.

With a wireless adapter you will only be able to connect where there is a wireless signal

present. The other option is a broadband/aircard (through wireless carrier)
