HP DV9574 Laptop - Can't install XP/Xandros

I've got a HP Pavillion DV9574ea Laptop and it came with Windows Vista 32-Bit from standard. It's got 2x200GB 4200RPM SATA hard drives, as some of you may know, there's a common problem with installing XP on these laptops because of SATA drivers.

I tried installing XP and it installed but kept crashing - I think however this is because I slipstreamed the wrong SATA drivers onto the XP disc I made, but after doing so I could not boot up Vista and had to repair it to getting it working again after removing XP from the disc - is it possible to install XP whilst keeping Vista completely intact? Note I tried installing XP on the second harddrive, not the same harddrive as Vista.

I now just tried installing a version of Linux (Xandros) and it said ' No hard drives', I presume this is the same problem again, lack of SATA drivers?

What is the easiest way to stop this problem? Can you install a new BIOS which allows you to use the SATA drives with XP? Thinking about buying a new SATA harddrive (a faster 7200RPM as atm they're both a very crappy 4200!) But would like to install XP on this from fresh if I did, but obviously with this problem it's not possible.

Any help/suggestions on this would be appreciated!

Re: HP DV9574 Laptop - Can't install XP/Xandros

If you only got the single SATA driver, you may have put the wrong one in then, there are RAID and ACHI drivers, most laptops will need the ACHI.

Best way to put SATA drivers into the XP install, is just do them all. Download the drivers from intel's website here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...4&submit=Go%21

get the floppy configuration utility, that will extract the drivers onto your computer and then using Nlite, choose a multiple driver folder instead of single driver, choose that folder and install all the drivers. Then it should work just fine for ya.

An doing a dual boot of XP and Vista, the reason it would not boot to vista after the XP install is because of the boot manager. You'll need to edit the boot manager to see both OS installs, then it will give you the option of which to boot from.
