I agree with dai, sounds like something is shorting out or causing feedback in power. You said you removed RAM and other cards, which other cards?
Also if you havn't tried this, remove the hard drive, cd drive, wireless card, modem card, touchpad cable, hotkey cable, take out/unplug everything you see, except for the dc in jack, processor and fan, power switch, memory, and lcd cable. see if it stays on, if not, unplug the lcd cable and try it again. Still turns off after that then i'd look into replacing the motherboard first. |

Re: dell latitude C510 laptop power light on only for seconds and goes off
if you have nothing hooked up to the motherboard, just processor, fan, and the power switch, do any lights flash or any beeps? or does it still shut down?
if it still shuts down, then you need to start replacing things. first and cheapest is the power switch. if its stuck and not "popping" back out like it should be, the motherboard will think your holding it down and will shut off in 4 seconds, like your describing. if the power switch doesn't fix it, then you could see if you can get ahold of another processor that will work in the motherboard, from another C510, or dells website should have a list of what processors were availble and tested to know they work with your unit. |
