HP laptop won't boot

Today I went to turn on my HP dv9000 laptop PC. I hit the power button, fans start running, lights turn on, it runs for 1-2 seconds and then turns itself off (does no restart however). The screen did not turn on at all.

I have tried letting it sit for a while, turning on with on battery, only ac, ac and battery, as well as taking the RAM cards out and putting them back in.

Contacted HP about it, they said they could fix it for $400 which seems a bit pricy. If you have any idea of what it could be, so I can either fix it myself, or take it in to a repair place knowing what the issue is that would be great.

Re: HP laptop won't boot

Couple extra things i forgot to mention:

The last 4-5 times i have used it i have used a hard shut down because i was in a hurry, and couldn't wait the 5min for a regular shut down.
Also i got it running for about 30 seconds one time before it shut off. the screen still had no power.

Re: HP laptop won't boot

When you power ON it boots up but shuts off immediately? Can you at least boot into BIOS settings without problems? How about removing the HDD and boot into BIOS settings alone? If symptoms are the same after removing the HDD, try replacing all of your RAM sticks with good working ones (just for testing only).

Re: HP laptop won't boot

I can't even get to the BIOS settings before the thing shuts down. I have tried removing and re-installing the hard drive.

Re: HP laptop won't boot

If you cannot even get it to boot into BIOS settings, try replacing ALL the RAM first. Use good/working ones instead of the ones installed. You may try removing one (if you have two sticks) and try one stick at a time but using a good working one would be easier.
