Laptop Keyboard Malfunctioning
Hey there --
I am, all of a sudden, having issues with the keyboard on my Sattellite laptop. The caps lock key is turning itself on and off, resulting in sentences that look like a 3 year old typed them. The right arrow key only works about half the time, as does the space bar. These keys do not seem to be stuck or damaged externally, as the actual key seems to function correctly. Just wondering if you knew of any tips or tricks before calling in some hands-on professional help! Thanks. |

Re: Laptop Keyboard Malfunctioning
Hello and welcome.
You need to get a can of compressed air and use it to clean the keyboard. Or a brush to clean inbetween the keys. Reinstall any software or drivers for the keyboard.

Re: Laptop Keyboard Malfunctioning
I think you can use an external keyboard (via USB) to test but you have to unhook the original keyboard off the motherboard otherwise you will get the same issues.
Another way is to boot using a different operating system (a linux live CD perhaps) and test your keyboard in that environment. If it is a stuck key (hardware related), it will behave the same way no matter what OS you have. However if it is Windows related, then it will have a different behavior in linux or in another OS.
