Odd infinite restart issue
This may be a long post, but I'm going to attempt to give as much information as possible in hopes that it will help me get an answer.
I own a HP DV6707US model laptop. The laptop has 2gb of ram, a AMD-TK57 processor, and an Nvidia 7150/GeForce 600m chipset. The laptop came shipped with Windows Vista, but I had installed Windows 7 Beta on a separate partition the day it was offered by Microsoft. My laptop has had a long history of overheat, which I tried to remedy by purchasing a cooling pad from a trusted company. It seemed to work but I still had occasional shutdowns due to overheating. After a while my computer would only boot to Windows 7 about a fifth of the time, with four out of five attempts failed when the Windows boot screen paused. I installed Everest Ultimate edition to monitor my CPU/GPU temperature and noticed that there were both averaging about 170 degrees Fahrenheit. I did some research and found that this particular CPU should not go any higher than about 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Since my computer wasn’t booting reliably, I decided to take it apart and spray compressed air in the fan/heatsink assembly. After getting cautious halfway through I decided to put everything back together and leave it as is. After putting it back together EVERYTHING worked, and I decided to finish by simply blowing out the Fan with compressed air. After doing this, I attempted to start up my computer and all I got was a second or two of blue lights on the system panel and what I thought was the start of the fan. The fan would probably do a couple rotations then everything would stop. The blue lights would go off, and the fan would halt. The computer would then attempt to start up again, going through the same failure as described before, with the fan stopping and the blue lights going off. I’m just wondering what this could have been? I realized one of my simple mistakes was that my computer was in Hibernate when I was blowing compressed air into it, not without power as a computer should be. This whole thing wouldn’t be a problem except for I am only 15 years old and don’t really have the money to buy/build a whole new computer. Please help, it would be greatly appreciated. If the problem lies in a fried motherboard, I will probably just set the computer aside and get a new one, seeing as motherboards are about $100 and there’s no guarantee that will fix my problems. If the problem was a burnt processor it would be an easy replacement for about $40. I apologize for the giant last paragraph. In desperate need of help. |

Re: Odd infinite restart issue
Ok, quite a few things to try here first off. One step at a time, go on to the next step if it does not work. If something changes when you try something, like it stays on but no video, then post back and let us know.
1. Test the ac adapter with a volt meter, make sure its putting out the proper voltage and that its constant. 2. power it on with the battery out, using only the ac adapter if it tests ok. 2.5 (lol) test the power for the dc-in jack at the motherboard connector. 3. reseat your memory 4. remove battery and ac adapter, hold power button for 30 seconds, plug in only ac adapter and power on. 5. remove the hard drive. 6. if you have two memory sticks, take one out, try each stick in both memory slots alone. |

Re: Odd infinite restart issue
OKay, I have a new update.
Once last night the computer powered up all the way to the HP screen. The HP logo flashed for about a second. Madcatz, my computer remained the same after all of those :( |

Re: Odd infinite restart issue
next thing to try is to strip it down to nothing, take out the battery, hard drive, cd drive, wireless card, modem card, unhook hotkey cables, touchpad cable, keyboard, only thing you want left connected is the processor and fan, power switch, dc-in, memory, and lcd cable. You can try it without the lcd cable also and power it on just to see if it stays on. Take out the memory once too, do any of the lights flash or hear any beeps?
