Another Presario Problem (v5000 Laptop)
Hello smart people! I've been reading some of the posts regarding this, but so far, no luck. From the top then:
Used laptop with my hard drive installed (Ubuntu 9 from a dell d600) Originally, kept restarting from blue screen. Then I put my hard drive in, defaulted the BIOS and tried again. Instead of loading my desktop, stays black lit. Went into Ubuntu recovery, adjusted some Blocks and Inodes(?) by answering yes to self repair prompts. Then (from extended menu, still wont auto run), selected continue as normal. That brought me to an Ubuntu Loading screen that usually doesn't appear at startup, but it said user password (I entered it) and instead of arriving at the desktop it faded to white. Ran a memory test (memtest 86+ from Ubuntu installed on hard drive) with the included RAM pieces and they were raging failures. Like 20% pass. Also worth noting: I ran the live cd of Ubuntu 8.xxx and that didn't do any better. So anyways, I'm going to try some other RAM pieces and maybe buy some new ones tonight. I'll update tomorrow or Friday if anything interesting happens. ![]() ![]() thanks for reading, hope you feel like chatting. P.S. until I fix it, I'm on library computers, so I'm not ignoring you I promise. |
