[SOLVED] HP ze1000 No power

Greetings all!! First post to this forum.

My experience with laptops is very limited, so I may be missing something obvious here. I have power through the supply, tested with a meter, 19.8 volts. The laptop shows no lights indicating power supply and will not turn on. Is there a fuse that I am missing? Any suggestions?

Re: HP ze1000 No power

no fuses on laptops. next thing i would suggest is to look at your dc-in jack, see if its soldered onto the motherboard or if its a seperate peice. If seperate, then test the power at the end of it at the motherboard connector.

Test also with a good/charged/working battery. If laptop boots up with battery then it could be what Madcatz suggested. Laptops has fuses AFAIK but they do not look the same as the ones on the desktop and they are soldered onto the mobo.

Ugh, again? Same problem as the other guy. I don't feel like typing it out again. Give me a minute.

Re: HP ze1000 No power

I think this is the fix. Unplug everything from the laptop - battery, AC adapter, USB devices, everything. Turn the laptop upside-down (keyboard facing the ground), and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. Plug everything back in, and you should be ready to go.

What may have happened is the CPU for some reason couldn't release its charge when it last shut down. When that happens, the system refuses to add to the charge and therefore doesn't allow the system to boot. Following the above steps discharges the CPU.

Let me know how it works. Good luck.

Re: HP ze1000 No power

My first thoughts were the dc-in jack and that has been the direction that I was about to take. Before I went and took the thing apart, I thought that I would give shiznits suggestion a try. Now all the lights come on (stay on) and the thing beeps (continuously) at me. I must now assume that the dc jack is okay, I guess. Now I really have no idea what the problem is :-( I will search the forum and see what I can find. Any more suggestions?

You're going to have to look at your laptop's manual to find out what that beep code means. It'll make things a lot easier.

Re: HP ze1000 No power

I would like to thank you all for your suggestions. I am writing this on the computer that was down. I reset (hold down power button), then pulled and replaced the memory, then it fired up. I came to find that my younger brother had installed "Personal Antivirus" (he did the same 6 months ago with other malware). I think that he will keep my on my toes ;-). I realy thought that I was going to have to replace the dc-jack. Glad I didn't have to.
