I have a HP Pavilion dv 8000 laptop. The USB ports do not work nor does the Internet -and at one time nor the other input devices. I re-installed windows w/ the recovery disk and still my Keyboard and mouse did not work. I upgraded to Vista and got my KB & mouse working again but not the USB, Internet or card drives. I then deleted, partitioned and formatted a new drive and went back to WIN XP. The KB and mouse still worked but not the USB ports or Internet. The internet does work wirelessly!? I've tried everything regarding the USB-discharging batteries, cutting power to port, uninstalling, reinstalling drivers, etc.., updating BIOS, even the recovery disks. The recovery disk said it would replace all drivers including Chipset. Under "Device Manager" everything seems to be normal? It obviously is NOT a software problem but a hardware one-any ideas? The PC was not used much and never seemed to have overheated, but one day the card reader, USB and Internet just stopped working? HELP!!! Please also respond to "ebonchill@aol.com"

Re: HP Pavilion dv 8000 laptop
What OS is on there now? still XP? what happens when you plug in a USB device? Do you get any errors in windows? Does it power the device if its a usb powered hard drive or flash drive? what kind of USB devices are you trying to use?
Do you have a USB keyboard, floppy, or cd drive? Best way to test the USB ports is to try using them outside of windows. A USB keyboard you can press F9 on it and see if it goes to the boot menu, a floppy or cd drive, try booting from it. |

Re: HP Pavilion dv 8000 laptop
Yes, WinXP is still the OS. The USB devices are not "powered" when I plug them in. (Flashdrives/Removableharddrive). The keyboard and mouse works ok now and it is a Laptop and yes it has a CD drive which works ok. Only the USB ports and obviously LAN connection is not working. It will connect to the internet by wireless connection. When i put in the falshdrive I do get an error message "UB device not recognize". As I mentioned I did delete the USB tree in Device Manager, I also cut off all the power to the ports, uninstall/reinstall drivers. I shut down computer, unplugged it with battery out. Held On/Off button so as to drain MB. And reinstalled Windows twice, used recovery disk, etc... and still no results!

Re: HP Pavilion dv 8000 laptop
ok, exactly what i was looking for, the "USB device is not recognized" error.
Go into device manager, under USB, look and see if you have a standard PCI to USB host controller. If you do, disable it, restart, and see if your USB devices work again. If you don't see that, post back with what ther is under USB. |
