Bouncy / Soft Keyboard
Hi,
I have an ASUS Laptop, link here if anyone's interested. I'm able to remove the keyboard with this method using a paper clip. (Note the link is regarding a different series than my laptop, but it works for me too and doesn't leave any marks.) The keyboard is bouncy, like it bows a bit when i type and since I do not type hard, I find I'm missing keystrokes sometimes when I do not depress the key enough. Under the keyboard is flat, connected to the computer with two very thin cables. The keyboard itself is amazingly thin - crazy thin really. Technology ![]() Could I install a piece of foam or something spongy. I'm thinking of maybe getting something from a craft store that's just a few sheets of paper thick and place it where the two flat surfaces meet between the keyboard and the computer. Ideas, suggestions? I want to firm up the keyboard just a bit for my typing style. Thanks. |

Re: Bouncy / Soft Keyboard
I used duct (duck) tape strips stuck to themselves, so the outside of the finished strip was not sticky. I needed only two or three inches in two places where the solid piece the keyboard lays on opens up to allow wiring through, etc... In those open areas I laid strips across (allowing for the wiring of course), and the firmness of my keyboard increased noticeably.
Of note, my laptop the clips which anchor the keyboard will more easily pop out now that the firmness is increased. This happens when the keyboard slides out of the clips along the top edge, which doesnt take much. To combat this a way needs to be invented to keep the keyboard pushed tighter against the top edge. I found an inch of black (to match the face of the laptop) electrical tape folded onto itself (so it's not sticky to the touch), and the folded again for thickness, and stuffed down along the bottom edge of the keyboard works. It's not noticible and two pieces on each end along the bottom keep the keyboard snug. I poked then down there with slight pressure from a toothpick. They're easily removed and the whole process takes less than a minute to re-assemble. |
