Greetings. Here's my problem: I have an HP Pavilion dv2000. The hard drive crashed a few weeks ago, which I have since replaced (had it verified that it was just the hard drive). Now, under normal circumstances, I would just install the system recovery disk and reinstall the OS, right? Well, unfortunately my DVD drive is a dud. It won't read the recovery disk! So, I guess my question is: what kind of DVD drive will work with my computer? It's supposed to be an optical drive, whatever that means. Will any optical drive be compatible? Since HP is on my bad side, is there another brand of drive which could replace this drive? I just feel like it's such a Catch-22: need to install OS but don't have the DVD drive to do it with! Any help out there?

Re: Need to use recovery disk but DVD drive is a dud.
HP usually uses a different brand DVD drive, like panasonic, pioneer, samsung, so your not actually buying an HP brand drive.
If you can post the exactly model number or product number I can get you teh part numbers that will work with your laptop. |
