Upgrade CPU (from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo)

I have an Acer notebook called 5572ANWXMi of Aspire 5570 Series. Currently, it has a Core Duo T2250 (1.73Ghz, 533 Mhz) on the chipset 945GM and an Intel integrated VGA 950. Now I want to upgrade the CPU to the higher CPU and I want it to be a Core 2 Duo CPU. Could anybody suggest me a suitable CPU for the upgrade? Thanks all.

Re: Upgrade CPU (from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo)

Your laptop probably does not support a Core 2 Duo. You can check out the supported processors at Acer's website here
http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/no...e5570sp2.shtml

here's a copy/paste of the supported processor section for the 5570, you can get the exact specs for you laptop by going to their site and putting in your serial number on the support website.

Processor / Speed Intel® Centrino® Duo mobile technology, featuring:
Intel® Core™ Duo processor T2300E/T2300/T2400/T2500/T2600
(2 MB L2 cache, 1.66/1.66/1.83/2/2.16 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)

If so, then the current cpu which I am using (Core Duo T2250) is also not supported. Right? Sorry but most of the members from others forums all said that my laptop can support Core 2 Duo and you are of the minority who said no. I enter forums for more choices. Thanks for the answer but it's not the satisfied one.

Re: Upgrade CPU (from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo)

like I said, the link is for a generic 5570, you would need to check thier website and input your serial number to find out exactly what processors are supported. Its the system BIOS that gives and does not give processor support, which ever processors the BIOS has support for along with the socket type will say what you can and can't use.

Re: Upgrade CPU (from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo)

Members from other forums said that I can upgrade to ANY Core 2 Duo CPUs. The BIOS version which I have been using is 1.3502 since February 2nd, 2007. Will this version support all the Core 2 Duo CPUs (for socket M) listed on Intel Website? Another version (1.3508) is available on Acer website. In case the current version cannot support, I will upgrade to the newest version. What are your opinions?
Oh, and could you show me where I can input my machine's Serial number? I have found a place on Acer website but it said my serial number is not valid.

Re: Upgrade CPU (from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo)

If you bought your laptop in the United States, then you can go here for the system information, type in your serial number, and it should show you every processor that acer has tested and knows will work in your laptop:
https://secure3.tx.acer.com/FindSyst...0Your%20System

If not in the US, then you would have to go to acer's website and select the region where you bought it, different regions have different models and serial numbers. Like your model doesn't show up in the US model list, just the basic 5570 and 5570z.

This is why I don't like Acer very much, they have nothing that shows what changes were done to the bios, not even in the bios package, only way to tell would be to dismantle and read the update file.

As for what others are saying, alot of people think laptops are just as upgradable as desktops, they are quite very wrong. Laptop makers may use a common bios brand, but they change it to how they see fit, removing and adding features. Just a few weeks ago I took a Toshiba A55 and took out the processor which was a 1.6ghz and tried to put in a 1.7ghz, the 1.7ghz was one model number up, and it didn't work, same processor line and everything. You can call Acer up and they will flat out say we don't support laptop upgrades, they want you to buy a better model to get the upgrade you want.

After searching around for the bios update changes and not finding them, the only 100% for sure way to know what processors are supported, is to look at the other 5570 models (that use the same bios) and see what processors they use, if you find one that uses a Core 2 Duo, then it will probably work, otherwise, it will be trial and error. Which ever way you decide to go, if you try upgrading it, I would highly recommend buying the processor from a place with a very good return policy (no restocking fees, and can return an opened product) just in case it doesn't work.
