Manufacturers menu?
I have a gateway laptop model number mx6922b running windows xp home edition. Just recently my laptop decided to crash. upon restart i got the blue screen error and the cycle in which it keeps restarting itself. No other options work which include trying safe made, recovery and booting from cd etc. I had the same problem a couple of years ago with the laptop and i called technical support and they talked me through how to run some sort of hard drive erase thing, i cant really remember. Basically during startup i had to press a few buttons to get on a manufacturers menu. My question is, does anyone know how to get onto that menu? This method helped me before and i did not have to replace my ram or anything. I cannot remember what i had to do, it was something like ctrl +m + something else at a certain period of time. Anyone who can shed some light on this, i would be greatful.
Thanks. |

Re: Manufacturers menu?
it should be F11 to access the gateway recovery software.
One thing I would suggest to do is to run a hard drive diagnostic and a memory diag test on your computer, make sure those are working properly before doing a system restore that may give you the same problem again. You can get both tests from the links in my signature, download, burn to a cd, and boot your computer to them. select the hard drive test from your hard drive manufacturer. |

Re: Manufacturers menu?
PXE: E61 means your computer is trying to do a network boot, and not booting to the diag software.
Did you burn the hard drive diag to a cd? Which test did you download? Next thing is you need to boot your computer from that cd. Go into the BIOS, go to boot options, set it to boot from the cd first, you can also disable the network (PXE) boot option also. You will know when its booting from the cd as the software will come on the screen and show you its doing the test. |
