Dell inspiron 1520 screen problem
Hi All, I seem to have a problem with my Dell Inspiron 1520. I adjusted the brightness the other day and the laptop emitted a ultra high pitched sound that has continued ever since. The screen of my laptop has also altered now and the right half of it is very dark, i can make out the desktop but only just, the left side is fine and this displays perfectly. If i take the charger cable out the back the whole screen goes as dark as the right half, when returning the power cable it goes back to half and half again. I have updated the video card off Dell's website and it seems slightly improved but i still have a definate dimming of the right half and the high pitched sound is still present. If i reduce the brightness of the screen to the darkest setting the sound dissapears? Does anyone KNOW what the problem is with my screen? Please only reply if you know what the problem is and have a possible solution. Please don't waste your time telling me what it might be or what you think it is? Im looking for an intelligent answer from someone who knows about this type of problem. I have attached a picture of my laptop screen so you can see this problem. Many thanks.

Re: Dell inspiron 1520 screen problem
where is the sound comming from, the lower part of the laptop or from the lower part of the LCD panel? If its comming from the lower part of the LCD panel (near where the dell logo is) then I would replace your inverter.
If its comming from elsewhere, post back where. |

Re: Dell inspiron 1520 screen problem
Hi Madcatz, Thanks for your reply. It's hard to tell but it does seem to be coming from the area around the Dell logo and the power button, if i hold the laptop to my ear it gets increasingly louder and almost more aggressive a sound if that makes sense?
You say to replace the inverter? Is this a costly job and is it something the average person can do (im not totally void of technical skills but im no whizz!) Cheers. |

Re: Dell inspiron 1520 screen problem
on dells it usually depends, some models you can get the inverter alone, they are usually cheap, less than $60 usually, but some Dell models the inverter comes "packaged" in with the LCD panel which is usually the most expensive part in a laptop. And they are easy enough to do by yourself. its just taking a couple of screws out, removing the LCD bezel and unplugging two wires and plugging them back into the new one.

Re: Dell inspiron 1520 screen problem
Well, display problems usually don't get better over time. Sounds like the inverter fixed most of the problem but not all of it, sounds like there may be something else wrong besides the inverter.
Theres only 4 parts that are going to effect something like that, inverter, lcd panel (backlight), lcd cable, and motherboard/vga board or chip. judging from what your saying it may be a backlight, if its getting better, and the darkness is going away, then really only thing I could think of is maybe the backlight is just old and taking a while to light up (like some florescent lights). If its not getting better, I would try and see if the backlight itself is replacable or if its the entire lcd panel. |

Re: Dell inspiron 1520 screen problem
Hello Madcats,
Greetings! I need also help! I have also a problem in my laptop inspiron 1520... Do you have any idea why my laptop (inspiron 1520) also deemed every time I put on my inverter? I used to hook on my charger (inverter) while using my laptop to charge my battery at the same time. When the screen started to deemed, even I remove my inverter it will take time to normalize my screen. Thank you, more power and God Bless! |
