Re: advent 6551 wont turn on
so the lights come on but no video no nothing? you said with the ac adapter plugged in it keeps trying to boot? does that mean you do see video but it just can't load windows?
If you have no video at all, try powering on with an external monitor plugged in. Also try doing a hard reset, unplug the ac adapter, remove the battery, and hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Then put the battery back in and put the ac adapter back in, power it on and see if you see anything. Really look at the LCD screen, can you see any very faint images when its on, try shineing a flashlight at the screen and see if you can see anything. |

Re: advent 6551 wont turn on
hi thanks for the reply and yes when i turn the laptop on the lights come on as normal but after a few seconds they go off then on again and then the laptop makes a noise which suggests to me that its trying to boot but cant and there is no video no faint images or anything and the fan dosent start as well. i have just tried that hard reset and still cant see anything.

Re: advent 6551 wont turn on
ok, first thing then, test the ac adapter, make sure its working and putting out the correct voltage, it can be tested with a volt meter by you or pretty much any repair shop. or the other option would be to use another ac adapter, just make sure the volts is exactly the same and the amps is the same or higher as yours now.

Re: advent 6551 wont turn on
ok, now, two things you can try.
1. Find out how the dc-in jack connects to the motherboard. It will either be by wires, or soldered onto the motherboard. If its connected by wires, test the voltage at the connector to the motherboard. If its still correct, then go on to #2, if its not, then replace the dc-in jack. 2. remove the battery, hard drive, dvd drive, touchpad cable, hotkey cable, speaker wires, wireless card, modem, disconnect everything from the motherboard except for the power switch, dc-in jack, memory, and lcd cable. turn it on and see if it stays on. No? then unhook the LCD cable and power it on again. 3. check the power button, make sure it is free and not sticking, stuck power button can and will do exactly what your saying, power on then turn off after 3-5 seconds, and power right back on. make sure the actual switch feels like its moving properly. and reseat the cable/wire it connects to the motherboard with (if its not soldered on). |
