Gateway Fx starts up on its own!

I just bought a Gateway Fx laptop. When i click on the shutdown button the laptop seems to shutdown properly but then after 11-20 mins later, the gateway starts back up on its own. Its as though it were haunted or something. I called Gateway support and they walked me through the the Power Options in the Vista Control Panel. Suffice to say that all the settings were as it should be. So they werent much help. The problem persists. The gateway isnt running on the battery, its always plugged in. Is the Gateway just stupid?!

if you just bought it and still within the return policy for where you bought it, I'd suggest to return it and get something else. Better and safer for you that way.

Hey Icarus. I bought a Gateway FX also (P-7805u) on 7/25/09. I got the same problem. 90% of the time after I click shutdown, it restarts instead. Sometimes it seems to shutdown, then it will restart by itself. Some people online say shutting down manually, holding the power button for 5 seconds won't hurt the computer; other people say it will hurt the computer. Gateway walked me thru Power Options also AND a full factory reformat. Neither worked. I also don't use the battery. The same problem was there even when I did use the battery. I actually removed the battery during use thinking that was the problem, but nope. I am gonna return it to Gateway for either a refund, or let them fix it. But I feel I rather get a refund and buy a different brand. Unfortunate cos I do like this laptop.

it's not bad for the computer, but may corrupt your windows installation (or any other OS). a hard shut down is ok if done before windows starts loading.

as for the problem, never heard of it. u sure it's doing it on it's own? perhaps it's just sleeping and you/someone/something is bumping the mouse/keyboard and waking it up?

I'm positive. I confirmed this issue by Google searching. It's not just me. It's Gateway.
