Panasonic T8 Issue
Hello All,
I have 4 Panasonic toughbook CF-T8 (touchscreen) laptops all experiancing the same issue. If you press the F9 key it seems as if the keyboard remaps. For instance once I hit the F9 key the "e" key will become the "j" key, the spacebar becomes the " ` " smybol etc... I have contacted Panasonic tech support but they do not know what the issue may be. If I press the left "Shift" key everything goes back to normal until I press the F9 key again. I thought at first the issue may be the software that we are using on our clinical laptops, which uses the "F" keys to perform various functions such as patient lookups etc... but I can recreate the problem in Wordpad without the program being open. The laptops that we are using are Panasonic Toughbooks CF-T8 with Windows XP Pro SP3 and all other windows (critical) updates installed. So far 4 other computers that I know of are having the same issue as I stated above. I have also tried doing a recovery (factory settings) on one of the laptops and rebuilding it (incase it was somthing with our Ghost image) and this did not make a difference. I have checked all settings regional settings, keyboard layout (US), etc... and I am quickly running out of ideas. I have searched the net extensively with no luck. Any help or thoughts about this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time! Sincerely, WK |

Re: Panasonic T8 Issue
Hello,
Thanks for the reply. I installed/ran the program that you posted and I pressed the F9 button so that the computer would once again remap the keyboard. While the keyboard was not working correctly I ran the program to see what keys were mapped. The program said that the keys were mapped to the correct locations. For instance it said the "R" key was the "R" key but it is really the "X" key until I press the left shift button which seems to set everything back to normal... Any other ideas? I have never seen anything like this. |

Re: Panasonic T8 Issue
I'd suggest updating the BIOS, my experience from working with toshiba, sometimes the tech support can be greatly misleading / don't know anything, lol. But there are quite a few Toshibas that do the same thing and the problem is in the BIOS.
Also, what language is the keyboard set too? You may want to make sure its not switching languages when you press the F9 key (setup as a shortcut maybe?) Look in the Regions and Language settings in Control Panel, look at all the tabs and make sure they are correct for your region/keyboard. Make sure to check the Languages Tab > Click Details > Click Key settings > There should not be any Hot Keys, both lines should say none. |
