Laptop Keyboard is 'Buggin'
Hi, First here's the specs:
HP Compaq 8510w s/n: CNU7513QR9 p/n: RM286UA#ABA. Nvidia Quadro Intel Centrino Pro Was running Vista Business Basic, But upgraded to Windows 7100 RC Regardless of the OS Switch, which was one option I thought could fix it, my laptop keys have started to 'bug out'. Like for example I will try to type anything, in this case a google search, and when I press the keys it starts to type, it sort of lags and then it will stop typing. Five seconds later it will type like 20 of the last character I hit, and I didn't press the key 20 times, I only hit it once. I thought perhaps under the keys might be a bit filthy by now and on my desktop keyboard I take the keys out and clean it, but im a bit weary about removing keys from a laptop because I know the setup is slightly differnt, and I don't want to brake any keys completely. Also I thought maybe theres a driver for the keyboard? that may need an update, but i cant even use the laptop right now its getting so bad, to see if it is listed under device management. The other weird thing that has been happening is the comuter will randomly shut down or restart, and when it does restart sometimes it just turns off again mid booting and I don't know if that's an issue related to the keyboard problem like the power button doing the same thing or if its a separate problem. I am pretty computer savy, I'd say im an intermediate level, I fix most of my computer issues, and i have been going to school for computer science, but as for the issue at hand I'll admit im pretty clueless. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys. |

Re: Laptop Keyboard is 'Buggin'
Did it become buggy before or after the switch?
Could you ever use the keyboard in the current OS properly? |

Re: Laptop Keyboard is 'Buggin'
You might want to get the Enhancements and QFE's for Vista. Windows 7 should accept them since the overall core is similar. Install the keyboard and mouse drivers from the website as well.
As for removing the keys, doing that is completely up to you but I am not held responsible to any damage you inflict on the unit. In addition any warranty on your laptop will probably be void. |

Re: Laptop Keyboard is 'Buggin'
I do alot of work on laptops, I wouldn't suggest removing keys. Like zerofire said, it could very well damage the keyboard.
Have you tried it outside of windows? try pressing F12 to open the boot menu, from there you can see if the arrow buttons work ok and respond immediately or not. Try a USB keyboard also, if it gives you the same problem, 10 to 1 its a software problem, if it doesn't, then most likey its your keyboard and try the step below. Try reseating the keyboard cable. Corroded or dirty connection causes problems like this alot. |
