Sony Vaio VGN-SZ460n - gpu upgrade?
laptop is a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ460n
In checking my laptops preformance - my gpu is the weakest link. it comes with a NVidia 7400 go GPU - bottom of the midrange GPU's apparently. My Memory - CPU - HD - smoke the GPU's rating no matter what i do. can i upgrade it? or am i stuck with it? thanx ps i've searched via google and found no reference thus far about upgrading the GPU - hoping someone knows here. Just seems a waste of hardware to have such a inadiquate gpu when the rest of the system is rating higher. the rest rates 5.9- 5.0. after shutting things off the gpu went up from 3.2 to 3.3 max. |

Re: Sony Vaio VGN-SZ460n - gpu upgrade?
shoot!
- if i could upgrade this one component to equal the rest - i'd have one serious laptop that could handle what i need it to do.. IF the MB could handle it of course. almost tempted to resolder an upgrade in. lol Last edited by Starving Artist; 07-24-2009 at 08:15 AM. |

Re: Sony Vaio VGN-SZ460n - gpu upgrade?
I believe i need to look further into this- let me give you the reasons why.
the Sony Viao VGN-SZ460N laptop has a switch above the keyboard that switch from what i'm reading about this laptop allows the user to switch between the power saver (to save on battery consumption) and full optimization... One of the ways it saves power, is by switching the graphics tunnel to the intergrated intel graphic chip - full on puts graphics thru the NVidia GForce 7400 Go mobile processor which has a memory chip. the GForce 7400 was chosen due to it's slim line and power consumtion and it creted less heat than the 7600. Looking at the processor via images online - i think it's a modual. Not positve though. I haven't found any specifics on the NVidia showing it in this Vaio nor the intel GPU on the mother board. As stated i think this needs further investigating - even if i have to take the comp apart again... hope not - but it is one way to be sure. Last edited by Starving Artist; 07-24-2009 at 09:40 PM. |
