OS: windows vista 64 bit sp1

sony vaio vgn-fz31m; hdmi problem: video but no audio

Hello everybody,
I have bought a sony vaio vgn-fz31m about 1 year ago, more out of urgency. the laptop turned out to be quite capable, although all the sony original software installed made it lag badly.

after a memory upgrade from 2 to 4 gb, I was forced to upgrade the os from vista home 32bit to vista ultimate 64bit. The next problem was getting all the drivers for 64 bit. i managed to do that, got all the system running without crashed or drop in perf.

Now comes the problem: when i connected the laptop to my lcd-tvs (sony bravia and a samsung 4 and 5 series), image was perfect, but the sound was missing.

I also checked the following:
- control panel sound options, where under playback devices i have: speakers/headphones and digital output device(hdmi) - the 2nd is "not plugged in" - even though the hdmi cable is inserted.
- tried disabling speakers / headphones
- tried different sigmatel audio drivers - only the ones from sony website worked

Also, i have to mention that the laptop, out of the box with original vista home worked on hdmi.

I hope somebody can help with this problem.
