Toshiba Portege disabled caching
Okay so I bought this laptop on ebay and it worked fine for like 4 days. Then I got the blue screen error. So I been putting programs and files on it. Either way the night before the blue screen I was switching my mp4s to mp3s and I just left it on. Next day it was okay for like an hour then I got the blue screen error. I rebooted and it was okay for like 30 minutes. So Ive been messin with it and Ive gotten a few blue screen errors.
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Tech info: 0x0000000a (0x0a4f00af, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804e40f5) PFN_LIST_CORRUPT Tech info: 0x0000004e (0x0000008f, 0x0003d0ff, 0ffffffff, 0x00000000) So I was googling some crap and it told me that if I disabled the cache that might help. So I went ahead and did that. Now my computer will go to the toshiba start screen and then nothing just blackness. So I tried to go back to the BIOS screen and sometimes it says check system then press f1 and other times it just goes to the blinking dos like thing....but I cant type anything. and if I press f1 it does nothing. I can get into the different start up menu. I tried safe mode, last known good configuration and start normally. So far I got nothin. Its a toshiba portege I have xp I think the 3rd pack? Any help would be awesome! Thanks |

Re: Toshiba Portege disabled caching
Um..I donno about what caching as far as I could see there was only one option for it. I pressed esc on start up went to the second page and disabled it. I have a portege m200 and no I havent tried plugging in a usb key board. I dont think I have a usb keyboard either...but ill check on it. Thanks alot for the reply.

Re: Toshiba Portege disabled caching
ok, so it was in the BIOS that it was disabled.
try and get ahold of a USB keyboard, its possible the key on the keyboard stopped working. also try unplugging the ac adapter, remove the battery, hold down the power button for 30 seconds, then plug the battery back in, plug the ac adapter in and try that. |

Re: Toshiba Portege disabled caching
I dont think that it is the f1 key cause when I press it it acts like it is going to do something but just doesn't do anything or go to the BIOS menu. I also wanted to mention that when I do just try to start up sometimes it will do that little load bar at the bottom the white one like on the old windows and i'll leave it for a while sometimes it will go to a very meek...or like faded looking windows logo which is totally bizarre but most times it will just do nothing.
I tried the hold the power button for 30 seconds and it doesn't seem to have done anything. I tried to let it boot up and I got the little load bar and faded windows logo but then nothing and I tried to go to bios too but still nothing. |

Re: Toshiba Portege disabled caching
well, not being able to access the BIOS to enable the cache and unhooking all power from it and doing the hard reset didn't work, then pretty much you have three options:
1. Try a USB keyboard 2. Update the BIOS, it may or may not copy the settings over during the update. 3. Replace the motherboard, about a $230 part from toshiba |

Re: Toshiba Portege disabled caching
Alright so when I saw you said I would have to buy a new motherboard I as like F this! So I just opened the thing up and I took everything out and unplugged everything and turned it on. So of course nothing really happen. I mean it gave some strange colors but that's all. So then I put the hard drive and memory back in and it went straight to the bios screen so I could update the date and time! yay! Although some things are still kinda screwy and I may still get the blue screen error. We'll just have to wait and see! Thanks for taking the time out to help me Madcatz!!
