Cry HP DV6000 turns on but doesn't boot...

Hello, all.

I have a bit of an issue with my HP DV6000.

Being a moron, I accidentally dropped a remote from 6 inches above on the bottom right of the keyboard, near where the touchpad is.

I was watching a video at the time and the computer, quite literally, freaked out. Several thick lines of green static-y stuff shot up through the monitor and the video started to skip and then just buzz, LOUDLY.

Not knowing what to do, I held the power button down until the computer stopped buzzing at me and it went quiet, nothing on the screen, gone.

I decided to try to reboot--and it turned on, recognised the external power, and the disc drive whirred and the fan kind of worked. The quickplay and other buttons at the top make noise when pressed.

My friend, upon hearing that my computer had died, asked for his RAM back so I took it out of the computer--then tried to turn the computer back on. No such luck at bootup, however, it did recognise that there was no RAM in it and made several beeping noises at me.

I've taken out the battery and held the power button down to disperse the rest of the energy from the PC...still no bootup.

I've yet to plug it into an external monitor (that's going to happen today)--but I don't think that is the issue. Still, it's worth a shot.

I was just wondering what the issue seems to be (due to where I physically hit the computer, I don't know what's under there), and if the harddrive is salvageable? I was literally days away from backing up on a new external HD before the PC bit the dust. :X

Thanks for the help!

Re: HP DV6000 turns on but doesn't boot...

well, it won't do anything without any RAM in it, it will power on but no video, no nothing.

if you havn't given the memory back yet, and still in the computer, do you get any video at all? looked at the screen with a flashlight? and yep, an external monitor too :)
