Gateway running vista

I have been having problems getting on line. Decided to uninstall an expired mcafee security. The computer worked perfectly. Left it to get a new security health check. The computer went into hibernation. It will now not reboot. Have tried running down battery. Mains only. Turning on hitting f11 and r but no response. Any help would be grateful.

Re: Gateway running vista

i would suggest running a hard drive test on it, download the hard drive manufacturers diag test, burn it to a cd, and try booting your computer to that and run it, see what that finds out for you.

i'd also do the same thing for your memory, download and burn memtest86+ iso.

post the results of those back here and we can go from there.

Re: Gateway running vista

did you mean tests instead of drivers? you want to run diagnostic tests on your computer to make sure the hardware is ok, if you did just download drivers, those won't really do anything for you at the moment.

you can download memtest86+ and a hard drive diagnostic from clicking the two links in my signature, get the bootable iso .zip from memtest, and then click on Drive Fitness Test, scroll down to the drive fitness test area and click on CD Image. burn those to its own disc and boot your computer to one and let it test it.

Re: Gateway running vista

try hooking it up to an external monitor and then power it on and see if that works.

if not, reseat your memory, take one dimm out (if you have two) and power on with only one, swap the memory, change slots. Try a memory dimm from another computer or brand new one.

Another thing to try, take out the battery, unplug the ac adapter from the computer, hold the power button down for 30 seconds, put the battery in, then plug the ac adapter back in.

Re: Gateway running vista

give the memory a try then, laptops will power on but no display, and won't do anything with bad memory.
