hp laptop does not boot

Can someone please help me with this laptop, it's hp dv2000 with xp home edition, purchased sometime in May 2007. I use it for my school work and I'm stuck as I can't afford a new laptop.
when I press the power button, the power lights comes on, and a little cracking noise is heard on the CD/DVD drive for 2 sec and stops, the screen shows black. I can hear the fan running at low speed but windows never shows up.

I have tried some troubleshooting by removing the RAM, battery, HD, and replacing each one after the other but never boot.

Try with an external monitor.

I tried with ext monitor and still same.

when i called hp they told me my laptop is no more under warranty, and will pay $90 for 1 mth coverage or $45 for over the phone tech support and no guarantee it can be fixed over the phone.

any help please.

Try this:

Power OFF the computer
Remove the battery
Unplug AC
Press and hold Power ON button for 30 secs. at least
Put back the battery
Plug back AC
Power ON as normal

If that does not help (still nothing on LCD and external monitor), then try with a new motherboard.
