[SOLVED] Gateway Laptop M350 WVN
My gateway laptop M350wvn was over heating a lot these days. So, i dusted the fan by opening from back side and tried to fix it back (basically no changes, except that I have tried to dust it out with a damp cloth). Now, when I switch back the power on, it doesn't boot (no error display nothing). By switching the power button on it does not basically do anything. I am sure, when I switch the power back on, light is being displayed, but, fans are not starting. I tried to move them physically/manually to give a kick start, but, to no avail. Any help is sincerely appreciated.

Re: Gateway Laptop M350 WVN
Damp cloth? By any chance damp cloth touched any electronic components? I am assuming you did this with laptop switched OFF, battery removed and AC unplugged.

Re: Gateway Laptop M350 WVN
Yes.I did switched off the laptop and made sure every part is out of the place and cleaned it. Well, damp means..It was moist..All in all, thanks for the reply and figured out what the problem is. I screwed up the pentium 4 chip in taking it out of the board..For, unlike other computers, it is stuck on the board and there is an "open/close" slot, which i did not see while taking it off and one of the existing 800 pins has gone away/bent. Tried my best to straighten it up, but, could not. Today, when I replaced with other chip, it started working properly.
Lessons learnt: Never, ever, take the fan out, if the chip is attached to it..then, look for any open/close directions, for, almost all of the chips, there will be some way of opening in a different way, rather than simply pulling it out of the board. So, guys, be careful, while trying to do anything.. |

Re: Gateway Laptop M350 WVN
Hmmm you removed the fan and the CPU? I did not see that in the thread until now. Anyhow, thank you for the update and I am glad to know you got it sorted.
