Laptop overheating issue
Hi, i've had my Acer laptop for around 6 months now and the past month or so i've had to have it on Power Saver mode to prevent it from overheating a crashing.
If im just doing basic stuff i.e. internet etc it is fine on High Performance (on speedfan it does say Core 0: 59c and Core 1:61c) which seems quite high for just basic stuff. But when playing a game, (i play Football Manager 2009) it will turn itself off after about 15 minuted because it has overheated. Very annoying. Ive had the base off and checked for dust etc and there was none i could see. Any ideas what could be causing this, any help is greatly appreciated. thanks. |

Re: Laptop overheating issue
my old laptop used to overheat when i played games and someone on here might tell u to buy a new cpu but a good buy surprisingly is one of those laptop stands with a built in fan, your laptop probably wont over heat because they make it so theres such great air circulation, they work really well but im just throwing that out there... listen to the admins they have better advice than i do lol

Re: Laptop overheating issue
IMO games and laptops do not mix well. I say this because laptops unlike PC desktops have limited space. Imagine putting everything in one cramped space and the only cooling system you have is coming from one single very small fan (well some have two or may be three)? The limited space alone makes the laptop prone to heating up faster even on idle. Just imagine what happens if GPU and CPU is working twice as hard to give you the best resolution and response time. Shutting off is a warning that something is wrong. It is a sign that we need to check if fan is working or if vents are blocked.
So assuming laptop is fully aspirated (no dust accumulation and nothing blocks the air passages and fan is running as designed), then it is not an error if it is overheating. It is informing you that it cannot handle the stress it is being subjected to. In fact it shuts off so it can protect itself from burning up and being made into an expensive door stop. Cleaning the insides, reapplying thermal compound and using a cooling pad helps... but best to use desktops instead (at least when playing games that demand high CPU and GPU utilization).
