windows won't login

okay so here's my problem; my laptop froze when i rebooted it, I entered my password and tried to login it told me it was loading my personal settings and froze. I was able to login to safe mode but it wouldn't load the 'last known settings' option. I've checked for viruses in safe mode but didn't find any so its probably a hardware problem. I'm running XP home edition on a Dell Inspiron.

Re: windows won't login

thanks dai, I ran it and it said that no hard drive was identified. So I think I'm going to need some heavy duty advice either on what may be wrong or where to go toget this sort of thing fixed

Re: windows won't login

check if you can see the h/drive listed in the bios

pull the drive out and put it back if it's not detected it sounds like it has died

Re: windows won't login

booting up the laptop
hold down the power and fn key at the same time and see if the diagnostic utility kicks in from the hidden partition
