Got an eee and I guess it's ill

I have eee pc 900, Blue, xp, 16GB SSD, 1GB DDR2, Intel Mobile CPU & Chipset, (WiFi802.11 camera, ethernet) I copied this from the carton/box. Cost $199 at Best Buy OmahaNE I have almost nothing added so there is no space problem.

Task bar, I guess it's called, is like jumping or twitching on the little arrow that says "Show Hidden Icons." If I click on it it opens and shuts real quick. The laptop is somewhat slow.

I'm trying to use HP F380 all-in-one printer. I re downloaded from hp and re installed. I get a message to check to see if the connections are good b/c it doesn't recognize the scanner or printer. During this adventure, it has occasionally worked, both scanner and printer. Like the scanner might come on after 1/2 hour when I least expect it. But maybe not usually. Like a long time after I clicked the scanner it decided to scan. I then hit accept and I got the following message.

"The HP imaging device could not be initialized. An error has occured communicating with the device. Make sure that the devices power cord and cable are properly attached and plugged in. The scanning software might be installed improperly, or there might be a device conflict."

I tried to scan again and got this message right away, along with the red X and that sound like you did something wrong.

"An error occured communicating with the scanning device. Please ensure the scanning device is connected properly and try again."

It won't copy either.

The Hidden Icon arrow on the bar at the bottom of the page is still spazzing.
I ran CCleaner. But nothing changed after I ran the cleanup.

Thanks for any info on why this thing is so slow and why it can't handle the all-in-one unit.
