HP Pavilion w/ good video card, but white LCD screen, Argh!
Hey folks, here's a good one.
I've gotten a Pavilion DV8000 in for repair. 17" LCD showed lighter and darker vertical banding, which I diagnosed as a bad LCD cable. Replacing the cable removed the banding -- but also removed the image on the screen altogether. Perfect backlight, no image -- just white. Replacing the LCD also proved no love whatsoever -- same issues. Returning to the previous LCD cable with the new display resulted in the same results -- white LCD (backlight, no image). External (VGA) connector to a second monitor works fine -- perfect image. Instructions to turn the internal LCD on or off (using fn+f8, I think it is) will turn the backlight on or off on the internal LCD. So, I guess my question is this: did I get hosed on the purchase of a shoddy internal cable? Did I damage the connector on the mobo (I can't see that I did -- all pins seem straight, and the connector goes in with nearly no resistance)? My next step is to go back to square one -- use the original LCD and original cable, but at this point, I'm $140 in the hole, and no resolution to show for it. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Try using the old LCD and cable. Problems appear if laptop is booted into Windows or are they present even if you boot into BIOS settings only? If the problem/s are NOT present if you boot into BIOS settings only then it could be drivers related.
