Problem with USB port in T41 IBM laptop

Hi, Im facing a problem with the IBM thinkpad T41 series, when I connect any USB device to my laptop my system gets hanged up, then nothing works. Then I have to restart my system to get the make it worked. Please can anyone tell me what is the problem.

IMO opinion there are two things you need to consider... first is if the freeze is caused by Windows (or USB drivers). Second is if there is an issue with the motherboard. I would try using a linux live CD (ex. Knoppix or Ubuntu) and try my USB device in that environment. If it is a motherboard issue, the system will show the same problem regardless in Linux or Windows.
