Compaq Presario C700 Startup Issues

My son has a Compaq Presario C700 that is just over a year old. Sometimes when he boots up the screen stays black but you can see and move the cursor. He has to restart it by holding down the power button and eventually it will start up, sometimes after several attempts. The warranty has run out and I'm not about to pay (in advance) for information that may or may not be helpful. I don't mind paying after the fact but not before hand. Anybody have a clue what might be causing this problem?
Thanks,
Jack

Hi Jack,

Does it behave the same way if you are using an external monitor? How about if you just boot into BIOS settings (not Windows)?

Re: Compaq Presario C700 Startup Issues

there are alot of possible reasons for your issue... to be able to diagnose the problem you can chat online with hp technical agent using a different computer even if you are already out of warranty...

I've never used an external monitor and I'm not sure how to boot into BIOS but I believe I'm knowledgeable enough to be able to be talked through it. Thanks.

Connect a monitor (one used with a regular PC) and boot your laptop. You should at least see the Compaq logo splash where you can press function keys to go into SETUP (or BIOS settings).
