I'm having problems turning on my laptop

Hey guys, I'm having some problems with my Dell Inspiron Laptop that i got a few years back... It wont turn on

Anyways, i would plug it in and the charging light comes on very faintly. I let it charge for a while, come back, and try to turn it on. Then the charging light goes off and it doesn't turn on. Every now and then I would be able to turn it on out of sheer luck. This had been going on for a long time, but just recently had i noticed that one of the few times i got it to turn on, the screen made weird lines going across the screen and i had to pull on the monitor to get it to look normal. After that useage, I turned it off and havent been able to turn it on ever since. Sorry if what i just said was confusing, as it sounded like garble to me. Thanks!!

Re: I'm having problems turning on my laptop

if you can hear the hard drive and the fan running when you start
shine a torch on the screen and see if you see anything

try connecting a monitor and see if you get a normal screen

if you do then it's the b/light/inverter
