Is this a good price?
Hi all, new here. Ive got a pretty decent PC and just want a really cheap laptop for uni - I literally just need it for MS Word, Itunes and Firefox. Just wondering if I could get some help, I found this one which looks ridiculously cheap?
http://www.einfo.co.nz/shop/product_...ducts_id=14381 Acer Extensa EX4630Z PDC T4200 2.0GHz 2GB 250GB 14.1" [LX.EBS0Z.023-C78] $117.86 Product Description CPU Detail: 2.0GHz, 1MB Cache, 800MHz FSB Memory: 2GB DDR2-667 Hard Drive: 250GB 5400rpm SATA Screen: 14.1" WXGA Wide Screen CrystalBrite Media Device: DVD Super Multi (Dual Layer) Wireless LAN: 802.11b g Draft-N Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M Battery: 6 Cell Operating System: Windows Vista Business Edition with XP Pro D/G media Camera: Acer CrystalEye webcam featuring Acer PrimaLite Bluetooth: N/A Card Reader: 5 in 1 Modem / Network: No / Gigabit USB ports3 eSATA / HDMI / FIR: No / No / No Weight: 2.4kg with 6 Cell battery Bear in mind the price is in NZ dollars too, which is about half the value of the US dollar - the next cheapest laptop I can find is NZ$600. Too good to be true? Thanks Stu |

Re: Is this a good price?
Except for the deals you come across I hate buying anything online since there are so many scams now a days but to answer your original question that seems like a awesome price and the features are more than enough to use it for what you stated.

Re: Is this a good price?
Funny, the site says the price is $1,075.25 which is contradictory, but for $150, I'd totally go for it. I just paid $500 from a friend for more or less the same laptop and I'm not ashamed of it :-)

Re: Is this a good price?
If I recall correctly the Aspire series are netbooks so they don't usually come with optical drives [cd], but you can download a free version of MS-Word from openoffice.org or download the official from Microsoft's website for a hefty price. I like Open Office because it's free AND legal :-)

Re: Is this a good price?
Not a crack site. Main website is here: http://about.openoffice.org/index.html
The licensing information is here: http://www.openoffice.org/FAQs/mostfaqs.html#1 This is the second time I've been accused of breaking the forum rules and so far I believe I have not. The OpenOffice project has been around for a full decade, I'm sure it would have been shut down if it was indeed illegal. This is a quote from their home page: Quote:

Ahh but of course they will not just be giving away free copies of MS office. If i read this right it is all created to be like MS office, but officially it is not. Anyway, it is not a crack site and I'm sorry I accused you of it. I still may be wrong about this being the real thing, but even if its not, its probably just as good. |

Re: Is this a good price?
It comes with Ubuntu and it's almost just like Office... just not as pretty I guess. No problem with the accusation, I get it a lot :-)
I just take pride in never paying for anything other than hardware and it all being legal... so I like to spread the word. I don't even pirate music!!! Sorry, but that's almost unheard of where I live at least. Well, it's 2:30 am now... I have to go get ready for work :-(

Re: Is this a good price?
It's not? That's funny, I'm pretty sure it is... oh well, I don't really use it, never really needed one you know? I'll test that out and get back to you guys...

Re: Is this a good price?
Just tested it and... (drumroll please) ... *clears throat* ... it is COMPLETELY compatible. This is from MS Office 2007 Enterprise Edition docx document to Open Office 3.0

Re: Is this a good price?
Sidenote: I actually use Evolution as an alternative to Outlook.
Additional Sidenote: I'm cheap :-)
